In 2021, UIC Digital and BBC Studios embarked on an ambitious task: rebranding, redesigning, and replatforming BBC.com for all users outside of the UK. The project went live in December 2023 in North America and will be rolled out globally over the next year. The talk will delve into the intricacies and challenges faced throughout this comprehensive transformation of BBC.com.
This session is tailored for product designers, strategists, creatives, and researchers. Attendees will gain insights into the real-world challenges of redesigning a world-renowned platform and receive practical tips for designing within a large, globally distributed team. The primary goal was to create a more connected, contextual, and frictionless experience for the global BBC audience. We recognized the limitations of the previous BBC.com structure, which attempted to mirror the UK experience but fell short in serving both the audience and the business effectively.
